It’s amazing the things you can discover while wasting time on YouTube.
I have discovered a hilarious group of fabulously funny crazy people in British Columbia who do stand up comedy to tell jokes about their crazy lives and experiences. It is both a wonderful way to cope with the stress that comes with having a mental illness while helping to reduce the stigma.
I.Love.It!
My friends would tell you that I joke about my mental illness sometimes. Sometimes, it’s all you can do to get through the day. It’s also, in my opinion, the best way to talk about your mental health issues with friends in a lighthearted way. Your friends are informed, but not scared of you…mostly…
I have often thought about doing stand up myself. I consider myself funny, but I’m a lame kind of funny person. I laugh at my own jokes…a lot. My jokes are lame, but that’s what I think makes them awesome. It adds to my charm, I think.
Somehow, despite my lame comedic talents and the fact that I’m coo-coo crazy sometimes, I am surrounded by some really great people who just think I’m awesome, and I’m totally blessed because of it.
Anyway, if you watch the video below, you will also fall in love with “Stand Up for Mental Health” like I have. Seriously. I can’t stop watching, and I want to join them! If they weren’t all the way in BC, Canada, I would totally get together with them and take the plunge, as I’ve always wanted to do stand-up.
Sometimes, the only way to deal with the really horrible stuff is to laugh about it.
