Chocolate for Food Allergy Sufferers

When our son was first diagnosed as having a milk allergy, my thought was, “Oh no.  He’ll never have chocolate!”  I quickly learned that you can easily have chocolate without any milk, but what was really hard was finding chocolate that wasn’t cross-contaminated with nuts.

Enjoy Life Foods has been a serious Godsend for our family.  When I first saw their mini chocolate chips, I was excited to make chocolate chip cookies for Christmas that was safe for the entire family.  All of their foods are free of the top 8 allergens, plus a few others, and are also gluten free.

It’s truly amazing all the things that they have come up with for tasty foods that are safe for almost everyone with food allergies or gluten intolerance.  Finding their products changed my life.

As my blog has become rather popular in the last several months, I received a free sample of two of the Enjoy Life new chocolate products:  Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mega Chunks & Double Chocolate Crunch Granola.

*drooling*

I’ve never been a fan of chocolate granola or chocolate cereal, but this was pretty good. It helped that the chocolate mini-chips I’ve grown to love in the last several years were in there too.  I tried it in my yogurt, but didn’t really care for it like that.  I did find, however, that it was really good straight out of the bag.  LOL  I’m sorry. I wanted to be creative, but they were so good, I couldn’t help myself and just munched it by the handful for several nights straight.

The chocolate chip mega chunks, again, I honestly planned on baking with them.  I was going to make chocolate chip bars or cookies.  But I found myself with a blasted sweet tooth and a chocolate craving.  I sat on my couch, trying to resist, but I swear they were calling for me.  I ended up just munching on the whole entire bag!  I know! I’m weak!

*sigh*

There is one thing I highly recommend as a quick, easy, and food allergy safe treat:

Enjoy Life Mega Chunk Chocolate Chips or Mini-Chips mixed with Sunbutter Sunflower Seed Spread. It’s like a food allergy friendly peanut butter cup, only better!  *drooling…again…*

To make up for my lack of control and baking creativity with these delicious chocolatey foods, I’m going to go out and buy some of those mega chunks…but I’m going to wait until I’m ready to bake something with them.  If I buy them too soon, I’ll eat them all before I have a chance to bake something.

I’m weak! I have a chocolate weakness. I can’t help it. It’s just so good!

So I will make something chocolate chip for Christmas (probably to put out for Santa Claus), and blog another review of these delicious chocolate chips.

If you’re looking for great food allergy free products that are nut free, gluten free, dairy free, soy free and more, try Enjoy Life products.  I buy many of their products. In addition to the chocolate chips, I buy their Chewy Bars.  I love the Sunbutter Crunch & Caramel Apple. My kids are partial to the Cocoa Loco chocolate ones.

Mmmmm….chocolate…
