Dr. Oz Belly Fat Diet

It’s not just vanity that makes us all want to lose belly fat.  Belly fat is the most dangerous type of fat in the body.

Belly Fat poisons the liver, which directly affects your bad cholesterol levels, causing it to go up.  It also affects insulin production, contributing to type 2 diabetes.  Belly fat also chokes the kidneys, causing high blood pressure.

Excess belly fat is the #1 cause of heart attacks and strokes.

Belly fat can take 15 or more years off of your life.

Is your belly fat out of control?

As shown in the above video, to determine if your belly fat is dangerously large, take a tape measure to check your belly circumference around the belly button.  In the video, Dr. Oz tells Jorge Cruise to “suck in”, so do this.  Take the measurement and write it down.  Your belly fat measurement should be 1/2 your height or less.  If it’s higher, then you need to go on a belly fat diet.

Note:  This measurement will work for anyone – men, women and children.  Measure the whole family.

Dr. Oz Belly Fat Diet – Foods that Fatten, Foods that Flatten

What types of foods should we eat to lose belly fat, and what types of foods should we avoid that contribute to excess belly fat storage?

Dr. Oz recommends monounsaturated fats as a way to flattening the tummy, and avoiding trans-fats and saturated fat as they contribute to excess belly fat.

Lose Belly Fat by eating / drinking…

  • Dark Chocolate – 70% or more cocoa containing chocolates only
  • Nuts (I’m allergic, but if you’re not, you should eat nuts frequently as they are a healthful source of protein)
  • Olive Oil
  • Seeds (I’m a sunflower seed junkie)
  • Avocados (I can’t stand them, but if you like them, eat them!)
  • Green Tea
  • Whole Grains
  • All Natural Peanut Butter (Again, I’m allergic, but for those of you who aren’t, go for it!)

Don’t consume…

  • Red Wine – it contains sugar and causes bloating
  • Processed foods (this is an all around good piece of health advice)
  • Partially hydrogenated oils
  • Enriched flour (all purpose flour, white flour, etc…)
  • Margarine
  • Pasta
  • Cheese

Also, quit drinking soda and other sugary beverages.  Consume only water and the occasional tea. Try not to add sugar to your tea.  If you need it sweetened, try stevia, an all natural, sugar free, calorie free sweetener.

Sorry, but Dr. Oz says nothing about it being okay to drink coffee, although coffee does seem to have some health benefits such as being high in antioxidants.  I’m pretty sure my mocha frappuccino doesn’t count though.  *face palm*

When watching the Dr.Oz show on Belly Fat…..I wrote down GLA gel caps and Safflower seeds. I cannot find the seeds anywhere. Did I write down the wrong seeds.

Germaine – I think the problem is making sure you find something that is made for people and not birds. But I found some Safflower Seeds on Amazon.com that you might find helpful. I’m wondering, though, if Dr. Oz meant the oil. But without more information, it’s hard to say. Good luck!
