February Health Goal Wrap-Up

In order to achieve my health and wellness goals for 2011 (my new years resolution, if you will), I’ve been making goals for myself each month.

So far, it’s been a major crash and burn.  I’m not sure if it’s because I’m expecting too much of myself or what.  Maybe 10 goals per month is a stretch.

Health Goals for February

  1. Continue drinking plenty of water – at least 9-8oz glasses of water per day. I did this, but I had days when I didn’t get enough water and could feel it later in the day.  I would easily replenish that missed water and felt tons better. I need to drink more in the morning to avoid this problem.
  2. Take 1 Quercetin daily for energy and allergy relief. I followed this pretty religiously.  I would say this was a success. I’m not sure it did me any good, though.  But I will continue taking it.
  3. Continue taking prescribed medications for allergy, asthma, and depression. Did this without any trouble. Using that medication sorter really did the trick
  4. Continue reducing sugar and high fructose corn syrup intake. Can I laugh at this one?  I seriously back peddled on this one.  Can we say “Pop Tarts are evil?”  Yeah…that and the mochas.  I’m weak!
  5. Exercise at least 30 min., 4 times per week. I’m embarrassed to even try to look at that one.  I’m still not getting enough exercise.  Then again, I’m not sure how much we can gauge my activity from this past month due to the sudden health emergency we had here.  How much of it was just me, though?  I haven’t a clue.
  6. Take Flax Seed Oil for Mood Support once daily. I took it for a few evenings, but started forgetting about it once our son got sick.  I’ll have to go back to that right away.
  7. Get 8 hours of sleep per night. I did very well with this until we all got sick.  Sick kids wake up during the night, and sick mommies come from having sick kids.  This sick mommy was tossing and turning all night with a fever.
  8. Take a multi-vitamin daily.  I would say I did this about 75% of the time.
  9. Take additional Vitamin C for immune system support. Did this about 50% of the time

I am so NOT consistent!

What am I trying to accomplish here?

My first goal was to get my allergies under control.  I have done that for the most part.  I started taking a nasal spray again, and that has dramatically reduced the occurrence of symptoms.  That’s a huge plus, so I’m actually doing pretty well with my health goals in that respect.  SCORE ONE FOR ME!

So what’s next on the list?  Mood & Energy

I have dysthymia, so that explains a lot.  I take prozac, and maybe it’s just not doing the trick anymore.  It may be time to just go see the doctor and ask for a change in my medication.

For some reason, though, that answer isn’t enough for me.  I really think it’s the excess sugar in my diet.  But I just can’t shake the sugar!  Like I said, I’m weak!

And I’m addicted to mochas.  I tried the low sugar mocha frappuccino, but that tasted pretty gross.

Does it boil down to my own willpower?  I haven’t the slightest idea.

Health Goals for March?

We shall see.  I haven’t decided what I’m going to try this time around.  I’m thinking I might take a step back and focus on what I can ADD to my life vs. what I should TAKE AWAY.  Instead of trying to keep myself from enjoying a Mocha every day and stressing myself out from caffeine withdrawals, I should perhaps focus on making time to exercise in the morning.  It’s just a thought, though.

Question:  How are your health goals for 2011 coming along?

I have so many issues with sleep – but it seems that I am just one of many, many. I hope your information can help me!
