I was in the grocery store this evening and was trying to select a Silk Soymilk that my boys would like. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the light chocolate, which is sweetened with stevia, my personal favorite. But I was looking for a vanilla for my kids, and I checked the label for the sugar content and found, to my surprise “May contain almond and coconut”.
What?! I had a carton of light chocolate soy milk in my fridge, so I immediately called my husband to check the label. It had the same warning on it. How did I miss it?
Because I didn’t expect soy milk to contain almonds, that’s why! What the heck were they thinking over at Silk? I know they just started making almond milk, but if your products are geared toward people with special health concerns and diets, you don’t cross contaminate! That’s just ridiculous!
Thankfully, no one in the house seemed to have any reactions, at least not one that was life threatening. Although I have had more sinus trouble than usual, it may or may not be linked to the almond that may or may not have been present in my soy milk.
So, this is just a warning to all of you soy milk drinkers who are allergic to almonds – May contain almonds!

Thanks for the heads up on this. I’ve been using the store brand lately, but will def check the label before buying Silk again. I appreciate the comment over on my blog and am glad to have found yours, too!

THANK you! I don’t have time to keep up with all the new “may contain” changes in the foods I buy. It’s great when consumers alert others.
I made this mistake today! I didn’t realize it contained almonds… very sick.
Oh Alecia – I’m so sorry! I was lucky…no one in our house had a reaction when they switched over, but I’m still not going to risk it.
We’re drinking Flax Milk here now. Gluten free, dairy free, nut free, soy free. It’s great. I highly recommend it.
