If you suffer from acid reflux and heartburn, like many people do, your antacid of choice may be Rolaids. If so, you might want to check out the Rolaids recall released last week.
“MCNEIL CONSUMER HEALTHCARE ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY RECALL OF ALL LOTS OF ROLAIDS® EXTRA STRENGTH SOFTCHEWS, ROLAIDS® EXTRA STRENGTH PLUS GAS SOFTCHEWS, AND ROLAIDS® MULTI-SYMPTOM PLUS ANTI-GAS SOFTCHEWS SOLD IN THE UNITED STATES”
The recall on their site states that the recall is due to “some consumer reports of foreign materials in the product, including metal and wood particles.” Uhm, what? Metal and wood in the Rolaids? Crazy.
Here’s the link with all the details regarding the recall: Rolaids Recall – Dec 2010
So, you might want to stick with TUMS for awhile or something. Yeah, I know, they taste pretty chalky.
If you suffer from heartburn or acid reflux chronically, however, taking Rolaids every day isn’t the best solution out there. There are other solutions, such as a change of diet or the use of preventive medications that can help prevent the symptoms from starting. Your doctor can help you find which solution is best for you.
In the meantime, try this home remedy.
1 Tbsp. Lemon Juice or Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Cup of Water
Mix them together and drink before meals. It goes down easier if it’s warm. This helps prevent reflux, and it’s all natural and safe.
