Fever, Chills and…Oh, God! My Guts!!

Oh boy are we ever miserable here.  In my previous post, I wrote about how DS2 just had it coming out of both ends. We weren’t sure if it was a virus or if he ate soap (he’s 3, and we found him playing with it an awful lot that day).  Well, a couple of days later, DS1 was miserable, immediately followed by me, and then DH – yes, the member of the family who never gets sick.

Emergency Room Visit

Just as DH was beginning to feel it coming on, we grew very concerned for DS1. 24 hours later, and he was still vomiting.  So he took the boy to the ER while I stayed home with DS2, who was very much on the mend.  Thank God for modern medicine!  The doctors were able to stop the vomiting with their uber-strong anti-nausea medicine, and he stopped vomiting.  He’s still barely eating, but he’s keeping his fluids down and urinating, so that’s excellent news.  Thank God for Gatorade!!

How Does That Make You Feel?

Me? My stomach keeps gurgling, sometimes loudly enough that we can all hear it.  I’m exhausted, feel disgusting, and I have to force myself to eat something as simple as rice.  Yesterday, I actually felt better than I do today.  Weird, and very annoying.  This is one very tricky bastard of a bug we’ve got here.  The day I caught it, I felt so much better halfway through the day, and then in the middle of the night, I finally started retching.  I was so pissed.

The children are in bed, and it won’t be long before I have to wake poor DH so he can go to work (graveyard shift).  Thankfully, though, he was able to get the last couple of nights off without any trouble, but he has to drag himself in tonight.  Maybe they’ll send him home early.  I sincerely hope so.

As for me, I am going to lie down on the couch, drink something…slowly…and watch a bad movie. Last night, it was “Peggy Sue Got Married”. Tonight?  Well, I haven’t decided.

Norovirus?

I am seeing many articles about the Norovirus, and how there has been outbreaks all over.  Seems possible, but the only articles I am finding are in Canada.  It’s a small world, though.  Crap spreads quickly, and I live in a hot vacation destination.

I guess Norovirus is the official name for the “stomach flu”.   Here’s the CDC info:  http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/revb/gastro/norovirus-qa.htm

I just try to share what I know about handling the things that ail us, and I hope that others will share theirs in return. Despite my knowledge of how to care for myself and my family when we are sick, we still catch so much and suffer from various conditions. If you have valuable information to share on these matters, I would love to hear from you.

*Crossing fngreis* he is on the mend. Does/can he do Gatorade etc? Or ginger ale? That always helps me… and crushed ice. My fave sick day treat.
